Anticipating demand for google apps
How much interest in migration from exchange or notes to enterprise gmail is there? I think false assumptions about gmail persist. These include scale ("gmail is for personal use only"); security ("cloud is less secure"); functionality ("fewer features than exchange"); and practicalities ("migration is too difficult"). My sense is that these have all been addressed pretty well by Google, but I'd be interested to hear about examples where migration is genuinely not feasible. I think the biggest challenge is with migration. Uploading legacy mailboxes needs to be thought out carefully, although a number of options exist that now make this more possible than before. I'll be looking at the best way to handle this. I suspect the easiest approach is to allow users to decide what they want to migrate to the cloud and to provide them with the tools to do this at their leisure after the mail routing changes.
